Seoul, Korea – March 13, 2025
Zigbang, South Korea’s leading proptech company, announced on May 6 the results of a consumer survey that revealed widespread concerns over password leaks and hacking risks associated with digital door locks.
Conducted in June 2023, the survey targeted 500 homeowners aged 30 to 59 across Korea who had purchased or replaced a digital door lock within the past three years.
According to the findings, the most commonly used authentication method for digital locks was password entry (87.4%, multiple responses allowed). However, satisfaction with password-based access was significantly lower (62.9%) compared to other methods such as smartphone apps (83.3%), fingerprint recognition (79.5%), and NFC tagging (74.7%).
Among respondents dissatisfied with password entry, the most frequently cited concerns included the risk of password leaks (75.3%), fear of hacking-related crimes (44.4%), discomfort with sharing passwords with visitors (34.0%), and the tendency to forget passwords (16.0%).
The survey also explored user adoption and preferences for smart door locks—typically equipped with IoT features and app-based controls. While only 36.6% of respondents reported currently using a smart door lock, 63.1% of the remaining group said they planned to upgrade to one in the future, indicating strong market growth potential.
When asked about their most desired features in a smart door lock (multiple responses, ranked), the top answers were real-time status monitoring (73%), remote door control (53%), and home arrival alerts for family members (49%).
To address growing concerns around traditional keypad-based locks, Zigbang Smart Home launched its AI-powered smart lock, Haven (model ZD-R90), in January 2025. Haven is the first digital door lock in Korea to eliminate the numeric keypad entirely, offering a passwordless entry experience. The device supports tag-based smartphone access and facial recognition powered by AI, enabling personalized authentication for each household member. It also allows mobile key sharing for guests and temporary visitors.
“Our AI door lock, Haven, protects families from password exposure and hacking risks through advanced security technology,” said Ahn Sung-woo, CEO of Zigbang. “We will continue expanding our AI-driven smart home lineup to match a wide range of lifestyles while prioritizing both safety and convenience.”
