Zigbang has partnered with KT to expand secure smart home network solutions, as new regulations tighten standards for in-unit network protection in residential buildings.
Korea’s revised smart home regulations, effective from July 2022, require network separation in all newly approved housing developments. The move aims to enhance cybersecurity in response to increasing vulnerabilities in home IoT systems.
The partnership aims to improve home network security across both new and existing apartment buildings. The companies will co-develop technologies for intelligent network systems and scale deployment throughout the residential market.
Zigbang’s smart home platform, widely used across Korea, includes end-to-end encryption, app-layer protection, and real-time system management to defend against digital threats. KT’s VPN-based network separation technology will be integrated into Zigbang’s system and is set to debut this July at the Remarkvill officetel complex in Busan, developed by KT Estate.
The companies will also offer cost-effective security upgrades—such as traffic filtering and unauthorized device blocking—for older buildings equipped with Zigbang’s solutions.
Looking ahead, Zigbang plans to embed KT’s security modules into its next-generation platform, enabling real-time monitoring and remote management via the Zigbang Smart Home app.
“This partnership brings KT’s 20 years of network security experience into the home IoT space,” said Min Hye-byung, Senior Vice President at KT’s Enterprise Service DX Division. “Together, we aim to create safer living environments.”
“Zigbang has long provided secure home networks through proprietary technologies, along with maintenance services to address evolving cyber threats,” said Lee Byung-soo, Head of Domestic Smart Home Business at Zigbang. “This collaboration not only ensures compliance with regulatory standards but also improves the quality of life for residents.”
Zigbang entered the smart home market in 2022 after acquiring Samsung SDS’s home IoT division. Its smart locks and wall pads are now available in markets including Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Australia. In partnership with Samsung Electronics, Zigbang also launched the world’s first UWB smart door lock compatible with Samsung Pay.
